Megan Doyle (pronouns: she/her) is a queer PhD student at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. She received her BSW and MSW from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, her research focuses on investigating the oppressive mental health system in the US and developing anti-oppressive and non-carceral mental health interventions for LGBTQ+ youth outside the formal system. As a clinical social worker, Megan saw a gap in affirming mental health interventions for LGBTQ+ youth, especially youth in crisis. Megan is passionate about preventing LGBTQ+ youth suicide and non-suicidal self-injury and believes that promoting mutual aid and collective care models in mental health treatment may ameliorate the disproportionate suicide and NSSI rates. Megan currently works as a research assistant for Dr. Anthony Fulginiti, studying suicide and NSSI. In addition, she is a member of a queer research team led by Dr. Eugene Walls, a member of the LGBTQ Caucus of Social Work Students & Faculty, a student representative for The International Society for the Study of Self-Injury, and a crisis chat volunteer with The Trevor Project.
