INQYR Launches New Regional Network in Australia, Welcomes Dr. Yael Perry
May 2021 - INQYR (the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience) announced today the opening of the research collaborative’s newest chapter in Australia. The Australia regional network will be led by Dr. Yael Perry, co-head of the Youth Mental Health team at Telethon Kids Institute in Perth, Australia. Joining Dr. Perry as the regional network co-chair is Dr. Ashleigh Lin, program head of the Youth Mental Health team at the Telethon Kids Institute.
“We are thrilled to be joining this exceptional international network of academic and community partners to further the important mission of supporting LGBTQ+ young people. Australia offers a dynamic research landscape, together with a passionate and engaged community of LGBTQ+ youth and allies. We are excited to build meaningful and productive global collaborations through INQYR,” said Dr. Perry.
“We look forward to expanding our research partnership to Australia. Yael not only brings a different regional perspective and clinical expertise, but also has unique experience building engaging digital health products for LGBTQ+ youth such as identity-affirming video games,” said Principal Investigator and Canada Research Chair in Sexual and Gender Minority Youth, Dr. Shelley L. Craig.
INQYR is an interdisciplinary and multilingual research partnership established at the Factor Inwentash School of Social Work at the University of Toronto and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Partnership Grant, and by the John R. Evans Leader Fund of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The partnership grant builds alliances with universities across the globe to understand and support the resilience of LGBTQ+ youth through technology-engaged research and practice.
The INQYR partnership brings together over fifty academic and community partners from across Canada, the U.S., the United Kingdom, Mexico, and now, Australia in five regional networks.
