A. Jess Williams

Discipline: Psychology

Jess (she/her) is a lived experience postdoctoral researcher working across Informatics, King’s College London, and the Institute for Mental Health, University of Nottingham. As part of the MRC Digital Youth project, Jess’s work focuses on exploring, designing, deploying and evaluating digital interventions with young people at risk of self-harm. Initially, this has been building on the work from her PhD, which examined the underlying processes which led to self-harm among LGBTQ+ young people. Therefore, her most recent work has been examining the impact of the socially assistive robots with LGBTQ+ young people who self-harm (with really exciting results!). The Digital Youth project includes a key stream of co-design, where interventions are reimaged with young people to overcome challenges and better suit the emotional needs of the individual. Her other projects extend the use of co-design methods into other areas of mental health interventions; and explore the impact of such interventions among different youth populations. Outside of work, Jess enjoys live music, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and adventuring around large expanses of water.
