Grace (they/she) is a second year PhD student at Portland State University. They completed their MSW in 2018 in San Diego, CA and worked for San Diego County Child Welfare Services for three years prior to moving to Portland to pursue their PhD. Their research centers around child welfare abolition, and particularly where child welfare intersects with Evangelicalism, queer and trans studies, or both. They are interested in how the experiences of queer youth in the child welfare system both expand and nuance child welfare abolition conversations, and are currently working on a qualitative interview project exploring relationships between queer youth and their Evangelical parents and how these evolve over time. They are most interested in qualitative research and research informed by critical theories. They are also a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Oregon, teach an MSW Field Practicum course at PSU, and supervise MSW interns at a mental health agency in Portland.
